“Gun control is a hot topic after the shooting massacre in an Aurora Colorado movie theater during the premiere of Dark Knight Rises. John Fugelsang (Sexy Liberal Comedy Tour) leads this weeks panel to discuss this and more with Dileep Rao (Actor – Avatar, Inception), Jacki Shechner (Correspondent – Current TV), and Dennis Marker (Author – 15 Steps To Corporate Feudalism).”

Thank you Bob!!

NBC’s Bob Costas, commentator for many sporting events, most notably the Olympics and Sunday Night NFL Broadcast, is an avid anti-gun supporter.

So I was incredibly happy and relieved when after making remarks in regard to Fox Sports’ Jason Whitlock’s comments, Costas came on the Dan Patrick show to say that he made a “mistake” in touching upon nuances regarding gun control and gun culture in America.

He said that he left it open for too much miscommunication and that to discuss such a lengthy topic for only 90 seconds does not do anything because it doesn’t cover enough scope.

I do not see a mistake here by Costas at all. He is 100% right. While he may think that it is a mistake, I believe that the 90-second spot, which remember is aired nationally, sort of opened up conversation. That is what needs to be done. Make people think and be aware of gun violence, gun control and the overall gun culture in America today.

What he said, and I will provide a link for the video and the article, is that why is it that people need reminders of how bad the gun culture in America is. When things like this happen, people are always saying “this puts things in perspective”. His beef with that statement is that things are only put in perspective for so long.

Costas believes that if it puts things in perspective, then people should be talking about these issues. He continues to say that if Jevon Belcher did not possess a gun, then he and his girlfriend would both be alive today.

He backed up his claims too on the Dan Patrick show and let his disgust on gun culture and this sort of hypocrisy by people be known.

I for one applaud Bob Costas. Bravo sir!! Hopefully his message will continue and eventually will get through.

Here is the video link to what Costas originally said on Sunday Night Football and the article discussing what he wanted to get at link:

The guns are in your court Mr. President

December 1, 2012 Leave a comment

I am just going to get straight to the point.

Barack Obama needs to put on a full court press on the issues of gun control.

It’s a must.

During his first term, he sat back and let the NRA have its way. Actually, he helped them in a way by passing a legislation allowing loaded firearms to be carried in national parks.

Obama preached during his election debates that he was going to look at many issues surrounding guns. He said, and I quote:

“if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced” and that we need to look at “other sources of the violence,” like “cheap handguns.”

Well Mr. President, now it’s time to follow through on those promises.

Many candidates will bring up gun control and send praise towards victims and their families when mass shootings occur. However, they fail to mention the 30,000 American lives killed each year by gun violence. Mass shootings such as the Aurora, CO., Tuscon shootings and Virginia Tech shootings will always bring up conversations.

The broader conversation that needs to start occurring is the one concerning the entire United States.

Obama is free of the pressures of campaigning and free to lead the nation toward sensible laws that can help reduce the flood of guns and related homicides.

The ball is in your court President Obama, with just second left. You can either be Michael Jordan, or Lebron in the 2011 NBA Finals. Pick one.

I’m stunned!!!

November 25, 2012 Leave a comment

The more I read through the news on gun violence, the more I am absolutely shocked by the crimes being committed with guns. Once again, the majority of the shootings that are occurring are with concealed guns. Mostly handguns.

This morning I was scrolling through my newsfeed when I ran across a Black Friday shooting at a Walmart in Talahassee. Now I don’t know the circumstances behind the story, but holy crap!!!!

I am at a loss for words. Why in the world do you need to bring a gun to a black friday sales, where you know people are going to be going nuts?

I mean seriously, why?

Let’s look at this situation for a moment please.

You bring a gun to a place where there are mobs of people trying to get sales and merchandise.

That right there, spells trouble. This is exactly what I mean when I say handguns should not be allowed for use. People don’t know how and when to use them. And, if people don’t know how to use something, then take it away from them.

This person was asking to be arrested when he brought a gun. Unless he was planning on going to a black friday sale mob and killing people, which is not out of the question, there is absolutely no reason to bring a gun. None at all.

Are you really going to use it for self defense? Take a chance at being arrested? Hurting not just one, but several people? Or even worse, children?

It’s just beside me.

Remember, the Founding Fathers did not envision a country where people would bring guns to every single place they went. Remember the context and what i said in earlier posts.
